Hey Falcoholics! The 2019 season is upon us and it’s time to bring back a series I did last year. “Brother of the Week” highlights an Atlanta Falcons player who displayed selflessness and gave their all for the team, which fits what Dan Quinn is always saying he’s looking for from this football team.
Without further ado, the “Brother of the Week” for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings is defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.
It wasn’t easy deciding on this weeks’ recipient, as there wasn’t a lot to be excited about in general. The team came out flat and pretty much got bullied the entire day. The offense was atrocious at times and the defense struggled with all of its pieces finally put together after a promising preseason. Grady Jarrett stepped up and played an extremely solid game for the Falcons, recording 4 tackles and 1 sack.
Man, Grady Jarrett put some Vikings OL in body bags in Week 1.

There’s no question that Grady Jarrett is the best defensive lineman on the Falcons, but he was arguably the best defensive player in general on Sunday. As dominant as he was, the Falcons still struggled to stop the run, a product of shaky play elsewhere on the defensive line, among the linebackers, and in the secondary. Ricardo Allen and Keanu Neal returned following season-ending injuries in 2018, and looked a bit rusty. Jarrett was on the field for 79% of the Falcons defensive plays, and even in a loss, his effort easily earned him the ‘Brother of the Week’ title for Week 1.
The Atlanta Falcons open at home next Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
