Report: Julio Jones may receive new contract this week, but really this time

Jimmy Sexton, who has served as the longtime agent of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, is reportedly traveling to Atlanta to wrap up Julio’s new contract this week. Well, at least to try to.

The best wide receiver in the league, Julio Jones, has been all about business this offseason. He’s been focusing on mentoring young receivers and staying in shape and not so much on the money, which he’s said he knows will be handled by Arthur Blank, the Falcons, and Sexton.

If the report is true and the deal is completed this week, it’s expected that Julio will become the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, surpassing New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, who was recently overpaid with a 5-year, $100 million deal. That’s an unbiased opinion.

Regardless of the financial side of things, you have to respect how Julio has conducted himself this offseason. He’s known that he will get paid, and that involves the rarity of a superstar’s trust in an organization. We’ll get to see Julio spend the rest of his Hall of Fame career in Atlanta, so let’s hope this deal gets done sooner than later. We keep hearing it’s just around the corner.
