The Falcons will play their third game of August and second official preseason game on Thursday night, this time against the Adam Gase-coached Jets. I’ve been looking for a team to come forward and shake up the AFC East so the Patriots don’t just, you know, win it every single year, and this iteration of the Jets doing so would be endlessly entertaining.
That said, we’ll have to see them in action, and we’ll get a glimpse on Thursday. That Jets team won’t trot out too many of it starters, but we may get a brief look at Sam Darnold and that imposing defensive line before the backups roll in. That won’t be enough to tell us much of anything—remember, the Falcons don’t seem to intend to play many of their starters this preseason—but it’ll be a brief challenge.
Beyond that, it’s seeing which young players and reserves will thrive, and whether the Falcons can break a frankly ridiculous 10 game losing streak in the preseason just to keep us from needing to talk about it for another week. We’ll see, and here’s how you’ll see.
