Time to reach deep into the team’s history.

I won’t lie to you: Plumbing the depths of this team’s history for trivia questions that are either challenging or will have you learning something new typically does not lead me to happy places. Hence questions like these.

Today’s trivia item as you cruise into what I sincerely hope is a long holiday weekend is this: Who managed the fewest receiving yards in a single season while still leading the Falcons in the category?

Let’s be clear that this total is quite low, even for the era we’re discussing. The man in question posted three seasons of over 1,000 yards and was one of the better receivers of his era, though his best days were behind him by the time he arrived in Atlanta.

Men came reasonably close to this mark as recently as the late 1980s, with more than one player leading the Falcons in receiving with just a tick over 500 yards. As you might anticipate, though, the man we’re talking about here played in the first decade or so of this team’s history, when their passing games were not the assured attacks they’d become with Steve Bartkowski and Alfred Jenkins, nor the 90s machines with Andre Rison and Terance Mathis, and certainly not the Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White barrages we’re used to today.

If you know the answer, let’s hear it. As always, guess wildly first, check the comments second.
