Falcons make front office moves, will not fill Scott Pioli’s assistant GM role

The dominoes have fallen for Atlanta’s front office.

The Atlanta Falcons are making some changes to their front office in wake of Scott Pioli’s departure.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that GM Thomas Dimitrof will return to a more traditional structure on his side of the organization, with director of college scouting Steve Sabo being promoted to the director of player personnel role (Dimitroff’s second-in-command).

Florio says regional scout Anthony Robinson is being elevated to replace Sabo in his old post, on top of the previously-known promotion for Shepley Heard, the new director for pro scouting.

The Athletic’s Jeff Schultz noted the incoming changes himself and said the team will confirm the front office moves here shortly,

The moves are what they are. We don’t exactly know how they’ll go or what the day-to-day changes will be for the front office, but losing Pioli definitely is a negative for the team.

Head honcho Dave Choate broke down the ramifications of what his departure means for the team, and I encourage you to give that a read. They’ll live to fly another day, but do know that a lot of the draft success in recent years is partially due to what Pioli brought to the table.

It’ll be vital for this team to continue to draft well and be wise in their free agent acquisitions. We’ll see if the changes made allow them to put their best foot forward for that all-encompassing goal.
