Jets sign former Falcons corner Brian Poole for $3.5 million

We knew the team’s former nickel wouldn’t return. Now we know where he will play.

After the 2016 draft the Atlanta Falcons hit pay dirt with undrafted free agent Brian Poole. In no time his tough tackling pushed him into the nickel spot under Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant. Things were great until they weren’t. The team told Poole in February he would not return, either via a tender or other deal.

Now he’s with the Jets on a decent one-year deal.

Poole overcame that tender number thanks in part due to Atlanta’s limited cap space. Of course, his down 2018 season and Damontae Kazee leading the NFL in picks pushed Poole off the roster. He’s a solid addition for the Jets who undoubtably expect him to bounce back from last season.

For the Falcons, it solidifies their top three corners as Trufant, sophomore Isaiah Oliver, and play-making Kazee at nickel. Expect the Falcons to draft another corner for depth.

We wish pool the best of luck on his new team. He is following the footsteps of undrafted corner Darrin Walls who had a respectable four years with the Jets.
