The Falcons demolished the Panthers for the second time in a month today. It was an exciting game to watch, but it was also a game filled with injuries. There are only 3 games left to play, and let’s be honest, there’s not much to play for; but losing guys at this pace is always a little disconcerting. Let’s break down some injuries.
Calvin Ridley suffered what we think was an abdominal injury during the third quarter. He looked pretty shaken up and had to be carted off. Ridley was having himself a day before he got knocked out of the game. (5 targets, 5 receptions, 76 receiving yards, and a touchdown.)
Desmond Trufant was knocked out of the game with a forearm injury. We learned after the game that he actually broke his forearm and will need to undergo season-ending surgery. Interestingly it was Ricardo Allen’s helmet that caused the injury. So if you’re reading this, Ricardo, you own Des a steak.
Wes Schweitzer was filling in at right guard today because James Carpenter was scratched due to his ongoing recovery from a concussion. Unfortunately Schweitzer suffered a shoulder injury and had to be replaced by John Wetzel.
Isaiah Oliver went down in the 4th quarter, further depleting an already depleted secondary. It did not appear that he returned, although at that point, the Falcons already had the game in hand. There was no real mention of an injury after the game, so while it’s worth keeping an eye on, particularly given the season-ending injury suffered by Trufant, it’s probably nothing serious.
