Falcons vs. Panthers: Who was the defensive player of the game?

If only the Falcons defense could play against Kyle Allen every week.

NFL: Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons defense has been a disaster this year, but not against the Kyle Allen led Panthers. For whatever reason, Dan Quinn and this defense knows how to show up against the Panthers, no matter what. Here are some of the guys who stood out the most in this NFC South drubbing.

Damontae Kazee

After a rough start to the season as the nickel corner, Kazee has settled in nicely in the position that saw him lead the league in interceptions back in 2018: safety. On the day he pulled in 2 more interceptions and also recovered a fumble on a kickoff. He looked good all afternoon and he probably just needs to stay at safety from now on, which creates some intrigue for 2020.

De’Vondre Campbell

For as rough a season as Campbell has had, he’s really played well in recent weeks. He led the team in tackles with 6 and had a sack as well. He also showed his wheels with good coverage as well.

Vic Beasley

With 2 sacks on the day, Vic probably made sure that some NFL team pays him decently thinking he’ll be the guy under their tutelage. One of those sacks resulted in a fumble recovery for Atlanta, something he did well in his stellar 2016 season.

Takkarist McKinley

You have to love the motor that Takk has. He is all out no matter what, and it showed on Sunday. He also had two sacks on the day, one of which was all hustle. There’s still some hope he can be a piece of the pass rush puzzle going forward, and a day like Sunday is a reminder of why he shouldn’t be written off just yet.

Special Mention: Kyle Allen

The Falcons have six interceptions against him this year. SIX. IN TWO GAMES. There’s a strong case to be made that Allen is the best thing to happen to the Atlanta defense. Thank you, Kyle. May you have a long career as the starter in Carolina.
