Falcoholinks: All the Falcons news you need for Wednesday, Dec. 4

Fact: Dan Quinn sings a variety of holiday classics in a lovely tenor

NFL: New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Hump Day, Falcoholics! We’re halfway to game day, which means [insert drum roll], the Falcons are almost ready to kick off their last month of football! That’s right, the end the offseason is in sight, folks. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Links? Links.

The Panthers fired “Riverboat” Ron Rivera yesterday, which is an interesting development. The writing was on the wall for Rivera already, much like many believe it is for Falcons head coach Dan Quinn. Whether their decision to part ways with Rivera with 4 regular season games remaining on the schedule will set them up for success in 2020 remains to be seen. But given Rivera’s status as a two-time coach of the year and his resume generally (e.g., an NFC Championship), it’s hard to envision a scenario where he stays unemployed for long.

On the home front, what are we wanting the Falcons to accomplish over the last 4 games? The Falcoholic himself had some great suggestions, but if you ask me, let’s just win. Win out. Just do it. Forget about draft position, because winning begets winning and this team desperately needs an infusion of confidence headed into the offseason.

It’s worth considering the season snap counts with one quarter of the season to go. So go, consider them. Please and thank you.

Justin Zimmer was signed by the Browns today. Zimmer is a guy that’s just hung around over the last couple of years, and the Falcons have obviously played some role in his development. In that sense, it’s sad to see him go. But that said, I wouldn’t rule out a return either. The Falcons clearly saw something in Zimmer, though not enough to protect him on the 53-man roster.

Looking ahead, Eric Robinson’s latest mock draft is worth a good hard look. And if you think it’s a foregone conclusion that the current regime gets tossed in its entirety, you may want to think twice.
