The Falcons defense has been a revelation in the second half of the season. The coverage has been dramatically improved while the pass rush has won a little more consistently. That held true against the Jaguars on Sunday as they limited Jacksonville to just 12 offensive points. Let’s take a look at some of the guys who stood out the most in the 24-12 victory.
There’s a reason this guy is constantly on the list. He netted another sack for the season, but his disruption of the pocket was pretty consistent throughout. This defense anchors off of what Grady does and what he usually does is destroy the middle of opposing offensive lines. He deserved the Pro-Bowl nod he got this year more than any other candidate out there.
With another sack on the day, Vic put his 2019 total at 8 sacks. There’s a reasonable chance he can hit double-digits for the year and finish strong. While many Atlanta fans have said they don’t want him back, his recent performances make us wonder if a short-term, incentive-laden deal would be worth it. Either way, it’s good to see him finally delivering in the ways we thought he could.
After a rough start to the year, you can argue that no corner has improved as much in the second half of the season as Oliver has. His coverage has been far better and he has been deflecting passes at a higher rate. If he can continue this trend, the Falcons have a young player they can build-around going into 2020.
What can be said about Debo that hasn’t already been said? His speed is simply incredible, which feeds into his fantastic coverage skills. He manned the middle of the field masterfully and reminded us why we all thought he’d be one of the best linebackers in the league in 2019.
