Falcons vs Panthers: Who was the defensive player of the game?

Don’t look now, but this defense has been very, very good.

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons defense started with 7 sacks in 8 games. Over the past 2 games, they have racked up 11 sacks and 4 interceptions. This is one of the most impressive turnarounds in recent memory and is a big reason Atlanta has won two in a row. There are only four names in our poll, but numerous guys showed up on Sunday.

Adrian Clayborn

Out of the 5 sacks on the day, Clayborn was responsible for 2 of them. He was the leader of a unit that was abusing the Panthers offensive line all afternoon, continues to play well, and put up maybe the most physically impressive sack of the day. Let’s hope his injury to close out the game isn’t too serious.

Takkarist McKinley

While Takk only had the one sack on the day, he was clearly generating pressure throughout the game. In fact, he’s been one of the better defensive linemen over the last several games, even if the stats don’t always back it up. It’s good to see the third year player starting to make an impact.

Ricardo Allen

This is the Rico we know and love. This guy was flying all over the field on Sunday. He had one of the four interceptions but also tacked on 3 pass defenses. He hasn’t had a great season, but he’s been very good the past two games and was special on Sunday against the Panthers.

Vic Beasley

Yup. He’s on the list again. With a sack and several pressures and a pass defense, Beasley has looked far better recently.
