The Atlanta Falcons are set to play in the NFL International Series next season. The International Series has brought games to places like London and Mexico City. Since the NFL has only played international games in those two cities, it stands to reason that the Falcons will play in one of those two locations.
This will mark the second time that the Falcons have participated in the series, last time facing the Detroit Lions at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2014.
We're going International!

We will play a home game in the NFL International Series next season. https://t.co/N2IicgEkJd
The games location and opponent have yet to be revealed but should be announced in the near future. What has been revealed is that this game will count as a Falcons’ home game in 2020. So, the team will play only 7 home games in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, instead of the usual 8 games. Additionally, the Falcons will reportedly face a non-divisional opponent which are slated to be the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and a current TBD NFC West opponent.
Although London has been a previous destination, it’s possible that the team could play in Mexico City. The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are facing off there on Monday Night Football on November 18.
It is unfortunate that the game will come at the expense of the Falcons losing a home game in 2020, but it’ll be great for their exposure internationally and for Falcons fans living outside of the U.S. The Falcons will lose home field advantage for one game, and deal with the added logistics and stress of extended travel.
