Desmond Trufant was able to practice on a limited basis all week, but his status was questionable for Sunday’s game. He’s officially been ruled out against the Saints.
Trufant has been battling a toe injury that’s kept him sidelined for several games, but there was some optimism when he returned to practice on Wednesday. He remained limited — as did quarterback Matt Ryan, fresh off of a high ankle sprain — but while Ryan is active against New Orleans, Trufant will be out.
Kendall Sheffield will get another start in Trufant’s stead. Sheffield has been one bright spot in a dismal season for this Falcons defense — he’s quietly put together some solid games, and the fact that he’s been able to get meaningful game experience in his rookie season should be good for his development.
John Cominsky is also inactive for the Falcons with an ankle injury. Cominsky was held out of practice all week, so this one isn’t surprising. Both Matt Gono and Wes Schweitzer are inactive, so here’s hoping we don’t see any offensive line injuries. Deadrin Senat is inactive yet again, and no, we don’t get it either.
Patrick Robinson headlines the Saints’ inactives. Alvin Kamara, Drew Brees, and Jared Cook were all on the Saints’ injury report this week, but all three are ready to go for Sunday.
Here are the full inactives lists for each team. Weigh in with your thoughts in the comments.
