As the season grinds on and gets worse and worse, it’s natural to cast your lustful eyes on other teams in the NFL and covet their best talent. It’s nice to be atop the heap, laughing at the idea that even your third-string tackle could possibly be replaced by anyone on those lesser teams, but we don’t live there right now.
With that in mind, what would we steal from the Cardinals, if we could take an entire position group out?
This is tricky because the Cardinals own one of the worst rosters in football, a group that is only moderately improved by two straight high selections and two offseason to get things right. But they are not devoid of talent, we should note, and thus there are players worth taking. Please don’t let them thump the Falcons this week, though, god I can’t take that.
The best spots in Arizona are probably running back (where despite his own history of injuries, David Johnson remains a legitimate talent, and they have depth), wide receiver (with future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and a very intriguing collection of young talent), and their 3-4 linebackers/4-3 defensive ends (Chandler Jones, Terrell Suggs, Haason Reddick, and Brooks Reed among them). You could also stump for Kyler Murray at quarterback, but I’m going to need to see more of him before I go in that direction.
At the end of the day, the choice is easy for me given the struggles of the defensive end group. Even if Jones, Suggs, and Reddick are currently playing in a 3-4 scheme and are standing up, they’d port over and with Reed given the Falcons a much more productive group to work with. Also, I just miss Brooks Reed.
What group would you take?
