Seahawks vs. Falcons inactives: Matt Ryan, Ito Smith, James Carpenter all out for Week 8

It’s Matt Schaub’s time to shine.

NFL: Los Angeles Rams at Atlanta Falcons Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

If you’re one of the people who inexplicably thinks Matt Ryan is holding this Falcons team back, congratulations. Today you get to watch Matt Schaub under center for the Falcons.

Matt Ryan was ruled out on Friday with a high ankle sprain. He was held out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and was able to return on a limited basis on Friday, but he will sit against the Seahawks. Matt Schaub will start in his stead, and the team activated Danny Etling to the active roster from the practice squad to serve as Schaub’s backup.

Here’s the full inactives list, courtesy of the Falcons:

Carpenter being out is obviously not good news, but the offensive line has been so shaky that it’s hard to say if his absence will make a huge difference. Ito Smith remains out with head and neck injuries, which makes it a bit surprising that Qadree Ollison is also inactive. I don’t know why Deadrin Senat is even on this roster if the Falcons aren’t going to let him get some game reps. Desmond Trufant is still battling turf toe, and D.J. White rounds out the list.

Wes Schweitzer will get the start in place of Carpenter, and Kendall Sheffield will start in place of Trufant.

The Seahawks’ inactives are:

WR Gary Jennings
WR John Ursua
CB Tre Flowers
RB C.J. Prosise
SS Quandre Diggs
SS Lano Hill
DE Quinton Jefferson
