With the trade of Mohamed Sanu to the New England Patriots finalized, the Falcons had a spot on the 53-man roster they needed to fill. While it seemed like the team may bring in another pass rusher, having worked out guys like Shane Ray and Nate Orchard, it looks like they’ve decided to stay with 6 receivers on the 53-man roster.
The team has promoted Christian Blake from their practice squad to be the sixth receiver after the departure of Sanu.

Blake was someone who impressed during the preseason along with fellow receiver Olamide Zaccheaus. While Zaccheaus got the spot on the 53-man, the team quickly signed Blake to the practice squad where he’s been all year. It’s clear they liked his long-term potential, so promoting him into this empty roster spot makes sense.
Given that Zaccheaus has been inactive for almost every game this season, it stands to reason that Blake will be on the inactive list on Sundays while Zaccheaus finally gets an opportunity to play. That said, it will be highly surprising if either receiver sees any meaningful playing time against the Seahawks on Sunday.
UPDATE: The open spot on the practice squad has been filled, with the team announcing they’ve signed wide receiver Devin Gray.
We have signed WR Christian Blake to the 53-man roster and have signed WR Devin Gray to the practice squad.
