The 1-6 Falcons will take on the the 5-2 Seahawks on Sunday in what is likely to be a game we want to forget. I don’t know about you, but I’m finding that these losses get easier to stomach as they accumulate. There’s just something about a 5-game losing streak that takes the pressure off and brings about a state of calmness and zen.
So just out of curiosity, what are the oddsmakers saying about Sunday’s game?
It should come as a shock to no one that the Seahawks are 3.5 point favorites right now. Given how both teams have played as of late, it’s shocking my the Falcons aren’t bigger underdogs. Russell Wilson is having a fantastic year and the Falcons defense, well, it isn’t good. Add in a Matt Ryan injury that is likely to keep him sidelined for the first time since 2009, and this is what you get. It’s worth noting that this has been the line since betting opened. That said, don’t be surprised if the Falcons are bigger underdogs by the time the weekend gets here, particularly once the Falcons announce that Ryan isn’t playing. Meanwhile the over/under is holding firm at 54.
For what it’s worth, according to Oddsshark, October has been a rough month for the Falcons in recent years. They are 1-11 against the spread over their last 12 October games. Perhaps more relevant is the fact that the Seahawks are 4-0 against the spread over their last 4 road games.
