Falcons vs. Cardinals inactives: Deadrin Senat and Christian Kirk are out

We already knew the big news from today’s injury report: Desmond Trufant and Blidi Wreh-Wilson were officially announced out earlier this week. The rest remains nearly the same from every other week.

The team announced that Matt Gono, Brian Hill, Qadree Ollison, Deadrin Senat, Trufant, Matt Wile, and Wreh-Wilson will be inactive against the Arizona Cardinals.

Deadrin Senat is frustratingly out again. The veteran Tyeler Davison is obviously the team’s dedicated run defender but it is weird Senat is not getting any snaps. When the 2018 season was all but over, Dan Quinn continued to play Robert Alford over the young Isaiah Oliver. At some point, the team needs to know what they have in Senat. He’s not going to get much better sitting on the bench all season.

Speaking of development, Gono looked far superior to Ty Sambrailo this preseason. Similar to Senat, it is odd the team refuses to get Gono more involved. Sambrailo is a known commodity yet the team still overpaid him in the offseason. He’s all but guaranteed to be gone in 2020. Could Gono be the team’s swing tackle in 2020? It will be tough to know if he doesn’t even get a chance as an extra blocker.

Another confusing roster makeup is the five running backs kept on the roster, along with one fullback. Devonta Freeman has an injury history but to keep four backup running backs on the roster is just wasteful. Especially because two are weekly inactives.

The Falcons get a little lucky with the Cardinals announcing Christian Kirk is out. Terrell Suggs and David Johnson, both nicked up, will play.
