The Falcons are bad. This is not debatable. We witnessed one of the worst Atlanta Falcons performances in recent memory on Sunday, a game that all but secured some major changes coming to the franchise. The Arizona Cardinals are next on the docket, so we’ve got news and notes on that upcoming match-up in today’s Falcoholinks.
Cardinals on deck for Week 6
The Falcons headed directly to Arizona after Sunday’s loss against the Texans, and they’ve been preparing for a clash with the 1-3-1 Cardinals. These are two very bad football teams, so we’re preparing ourselves for a sloppy affair on the road. And while the Arizona Cardinals are playing just as poorly as the Atlanta Falcons, they still have a position group that would prove a solid addition to the Falcons’ squad.
Atlanta enters this one as a slight favorite, which would be absolutely insane if they weren’t taking on a team just as hapless as themselves. The Falcons are 1-4 against the spread this season, so I’d recommend staying as far away from this one as possible.
The more things change, the more they stay the same
With the way this season has gone, it’s impossible to ignore the parallels between the 2019 Falcons and the 2014 Falcons. Mike Smith was of course dismissed after that awful 6-10 season, and sitting at 1-4 in Week 6, we’re staring a regime change directly in the face.
So what does that 2014 roster look like in comparison with 2019? Mike Smith left the roster devoid of most young talent, and thankfully Dan Quinn has stocked it with some very solid pieces for the next staff to build upon.
“This play should never happen”
NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah did not mince words when dragging the Atlanta Falcons’ defense against the Houston Texans, specifically zeroing in on the Falcons’ defensive scheme in their 53-32 loss on the road.
