Atlanta has promoted LS Jeff Overbaugh from the practice squad, and waived LB Richard Jarvis to make room on the 53-man roster. Overbaugh has been with the team this week as insurance for LS Josh Harris, who is recovering from a hip injury. It looks like he’ll be needed tonight with Harris’ status in question.
Jarvis was one of the few UDFAs to make the team this preseason. He provided depth at EDGE and at SAM LB, but was clearly a luxury to keep on the roster. With the Falcons missing a few pieces at CB and now at LS, there simply wasn’t room to keep him around. It’s an unfortunate way to get cut for Jarvis, but the team will almost certainly retain his services on the practice squad if he clears waivers. He should also have a pretty good shot at returning to the active roster sometime this season, assuming Harris’ returns to full health.
Josh Harris seems likely to join CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB Isaiah Oliver, and C/G Ben Garland as an injury inactive tonight. However, there’s still a slight chance that Harris is cleared in pre-game warm-ups and does end up playing. So, as of now, he’s not officially out.
What are your thoughts on these roster moves? Any concern with Jeff Overbaugh potentially stepping in for the reliable Josh Harris at LS?
