The Falcoholic’s picks for Falcons vs. Eagles and other Week 1 NFL games

Welcome to real football!

NFL: NFC Divisional Playoff-Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

It’s finally here — real, actual NFL football. And with the return of our beloved Falcons comes meaningful picks for this season’s games, starting with Week 1.

We have a slightly different format for this year’s picks. Our staff will chime in with their predictions on all of the NFC South games as well as every primetime game in any given week. We’re also welcoming two guest pickers. One will be a blogger from the site that covers the Falcons’ opponent that week, and the other will be one of y’all, dear readers.

To be selected as the guest picker for next week, all you have to do is share your picks for this slate of games in the comments. The person who gets the most correct will be the guest picker for the following week. If there’s a tie, don’t worry. I have a very scientific method for randomly selecting a winner. Last week it came down to AJ Chambers, also known as DnomiicTheFalconator, and Doc Falcon, and they tied. So I let my dog, noted Falcons fan Baxter Thomas, choose.

Welcome to the party, AJ, and thanks to both of you for playing last week.

This week, obviously we have the Falcons kicking things off against the Eagles on Thursday night. I don’t know if you guys know this, but you may have heard that the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Well, that didn’t really influence our pickers’ decision-making process, nor did the fact that the Eagles knocked Atlanta out of the playoffs last year. An overwhelming majority is banking on an Atlanta win.

Beyond that, we have a lot of faith in the Saints, and a little wishful thinking for an 0-0 tie. The Panthers, Packers, and Lions are easy favorites, and the Raiders get no respect at all around here. That happens when you trade away your best player right before the season begins.

Everyone starts the season with a 0-0 record. We’re not keeping track of preseason wins and losses, thank goodness. But check back in the weeks to come to see how your favorite Falcoholic writers and our guests are faring with their picks.

Here’s all of this week’s picks.
