Let’s be honest. This is really more of a “choose who sucked less” type of poll than it is a “hey that guy was pretty good” kind of poll. So be it. The defense gave up 14 billion points en route to a disappointing loss and yet another potential devastating loss of a starter. Here are your candidates for the least offensive defensive player.
Ricardo Allen
With Ricardo potentially being out for significant time, this one hurts. He was having a decent game, especially when you consider that he was asked to play in the box more than he’s used to. More than anything, his veteran leadership on the field was felt the moment he wasn’t on it anymore. Let’s hope and pray his injury isn’t season ending.
Duke Riley
A week after getting gashed by the Panthers, Riley did a much better job of settling down in this game. He wasn’t perfect, but the progress from the last game to this one was noticeable. If he can continue to improve like this, he could go from liability to capable starter in a short period of time.
Damontae Kazee
Kazee has shown flashes of being an amazing, instinctive player even if he is prone to whiff on tackles here and there. He clearly has a nose for finding the football, though he needs to clean up once he gets there. If this defense is going to avoid being the worst in the league, Kazee will need to be one of the guys to step up big time.
Random guy on the bench
Let’s be honest: giving up nearly 50 points and missing tackles like you’re in a pee wee league was frustrating. In fact, it was so bad at times that a random guy on the bench looked like a better option. Seriously.
