The Falcons put Andy Levitre on injured reserve just a short time ago, and they have a corresponding roster move ready to go. Oddly enough, it’s Brandon Fusco’s former backup when both players were with the Vikings.
Zac Kerin is a former undrafted free agent who spent three years with the Vikings before bouncing around to the Lions and Giants. He’s fairly mobile and has dabbled at center in the past, but he’s participated in just 16 NFL games since 2014 and is obviously no more than a deep reserve for this Falcons team.
Andy Levitre has been placed on season-ending IR with a triceps injury. Another injury blow for the Falcons. Team signed G Zac Kerin I’m corresponding roster move.— Jason Butt (@JasonHButt) September 18, 2018
If Kerin sees the field, something has gone very wrong, though I’m sure his mobility and Brandon Fusco’s familiarity with the player who replaced him twice in 2016 when he suffered injuries were a selling point for the Falcons. Wes Schweitzer is probably first in line to replace Levitre, with Ben Garland backing up every interior line spot if he’s healthy. It’s yet another blow to a Falcons team that can’t afford too many more.
Warmly welcome Kerin, though.
