Even though the Falcons defense did not have a great game against the Panthers, there were still some bright spots in the Falcons 31-24 win over the Panthers. Here are our potential picks for defensive player of the game. Let us know yours!
His interception in the fourth quarter could very well be the difference in this game being a win and going to overtime. Apart from that play, the veteran safety had to manage a defense missing two high quality starters and missing a young new starter who was ejected from the game early. He’s a steadying presence on the field that does everything that’s asked of him.
In a week where the Falcons pass rush sadly did not take advantage of a weak offensive line, Jarrett just continued to do what he’s been doing. He consistently disrupted the pocket and should have gotten several sacks were it not for some questionable no-calls by the refs. He’s playing his way to a very nice extension in the near future.
He’s often hated on by Falcons fans, but his coverage this year has been outstanding. He had a few pass break ups in this game that helped keep the Panthers offense from ripping off some huge plays. If this Falcons defense is going to be even half-way decent, he needs to continue to play this way.
Poole is unarguably one of the best tacklers on the team and excels when the defense is in zone. His early sack of Cam Newton is no surprise for those who have watched Poole. He may not be our best cover corner, but he brings so much more to the table. He’s a quality player and demonstrated as much today.
