Matt Gono put together an impressive preseason, and he’s now slated to join the Falcons’ final roster. Yesterday’s departure of offensive tackle Austin Pasztor somewhat signaled Atlanta’s plans for Gono, and those plans are now clear as he makes the 53.
Fox 5’s Justin Felder had the scoop:
Per NFL source, Falcons undrafted rookie tackle Matt Gono is expected to make the team. Played at D-III Wesley College. Nothing official yet from the team.— Justin Felder (@Justin_FOX5) September 1, 2018
Matt Gono had a real rough go of it Thursday night against Miami, but his performance in the first three preseason games outweighed his struggles in the final game. He’s genuinely looked great at times in pass protection, so it makes sense for the Falcons to keep him around for offensive line depth. With Ty Sambrailo presumably filling the swing tackle role that he manned last season, Gono will shore up the right tackle spot behind Ryan Schraeder.
So congrats to Matt Gono, and welcome to the Falcons.
