The Atlanta Falcons will rest a handful of notable faces in their third preseason go-around against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Athletic’s Jason Butt reports that secondary starters Desmond Trufant and Ricardo Allen will not play Saturday night, joining guys like Julio Jones, Deion Jones, Devonta Freeman and Marvin Hall as notable faces on the sideline.
It’s said, though, that “Money” Matt Bryant will get his first action of the season. David Marvin is more than capable of fielding the latter-game kicking duties, so the team might just trying to be getting Old Man Money a few reps in to loosen him up for Philadelphia.
Butt reminds us that the team would’ve likely started all of these guys if it were a regular season game. Since this game does not count, it gives the Falcons more latitude to let the big names rest and heal up for the regular season.
We’ll see how this affects Atlanta’s offense and defense when the game gets going here shortly, but word to the wise: If they don’t look quite as sharp as they did last week, remember who’s on the other side of the ball, and remember who’s out.
