Falcons fans are now privy to what could be a new injury to one of the defense’s best players.
The mothership has shared that LB Deion Jones will be held out Friday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, mounting speculation as to why exactly that it is.
K Matt Bryant is also being held out. We know he’s been ailing for some time now.
Head coach Dan Quinn cites both absences as a coach’s decision, so we don’t know exactly what’s going on with Debo.
We’ll be monitoring Jones’ health in light of the news.
[UPDATE: Well, now we know. D. Orlando Ledbetter of the AJC reports Jones has a strain, and says both he and Bryant would play if this were September.]
Also, for those hoping to get a glimpse of Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman against the Chiefs’ defense, it’ll still be another week. Ledbetter says they’re out for Friday’s tilt.
In Jones’ stead, look for upstart rookie LB Foyesade Oluokun to get the snaps in the starting defense, and for UDFAs Emmanuel Smith and Jonathan Celestin to perhaps factor in there as well.
But, this is now a big night for the Yale grad, and we’ll see what the defense would look like in case, er, Debo ever did miss time when it counted.
