Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman will make season debuts against Kansas City

Looks like the duo will see the field Friday.

For those sad that Falcons WR Julio Jones and RB Devonta Freeman didn’t get any action last week, you’re in luck.

Dan Quinn has given them the green light to join in on the preseason fun for Friday’s bout with the Kansas City Chiefs.

As, er, you are well aware, Jones got to summer activities late in the process, which might be why the team is easing him back onto the field. Or, y’know, it’s because he’s Julio Jones.

Freeman is a bit more of a curious case, considering he picked up a concussion last preseason. It’s not a fun conversation to have about Free, but he’s beginning to rack up the concussions. He had a couple last season, so it does put into question how much the team is willing to let him on the field until they have to.

Concussion aftereffects vary from player to player, and it’s really hard to know exactly how things are going to impact people in the interim and in the long run (both have devastating consequences), so perhaps we’ll discuss another day how long Freeman’s career will last if these continue. But, for now, circle that, as well as it just being meaningless football, as why the team’s not likely to get Freeman out there more than they have to.

So, if you’re itching to see your favorite Falcons stars play a bit of scrimmage ball, you might see a few reps if you’re tuning in to Friday’s action.

Just, y’know, don’t expect a lot. It’s preseason, after all.
