Falcons announce uniform numbers for their 2018 draft class

NFL: Combine Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Uniform numbers end up being shorthand for NFL fans. Before you register who the receiver making the acrobatic catch is, before you can squint and see his name on the back of his jersey, you know it’s Julio Jones by #11. Numbers can become iconic, and a part of a player’s lore.

Let’s hope that’s the case for multiple members of this Falcons rookie draft class, who just saw their numbers announced this afternoon. Calvin Ridley will become the latest Falcons receiver to have a number in the teens, with Russell Gage potentially standing out at the position because he’s actually got one in the 80s. I doubt you’re going to get too excited about anybody else’s choices, but hey, knock yourself out.

The Falcons should have their entire class locked up soon, and while not all of them will likely be wild successes, I’m hopeful we’ll have a reason down the line to talk about how great #18 or #94 was back in the 2010s and 2020s.
