In just under 48 hours, the Atlanta Falcons will make the 26th selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. Barring any last minute shenanigans, that’s their draft position, and their sticking with it. It’s a nerve-racking time to be in the front office. It’s a nerve-racking time to be a fan. Tensions are running high, so let’s all take a deep breath and stop refreshing Julio Jones’ Twitter account.
Congratulations are in order. You’ve endured mock draft after mock draft. You’ve entertained every rumor. You’ve thoroughly researched every prospect that even made eye contact with a Falcons scout over the past two months. It’s out of your hands now, but here you stand, engaged and ready for battle. No one is doubting your preparation. But that won’t stop you from wringing their hands over the next couple days.
Let’s give credit where credit’s due. General manager Thomas Dimitroff and his underlings have spent months parsing data, narrowing down their search. I trust that they know what they’re doing. But even the best prepared front offices whiff. It happens. So here I sit, hoping Dimitroff and his merry band of scouts do the right thing. I have no control over how the Falcons tackle this draft, just blind faith. How about you?
