Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman has a big year ahead of him. He may be employed by a different team by this time next year. Then again, in a slightly different scenario, one where general manager Thomas Dimitroff wasn’t just foolin’, he could have a shiny new, Arthur Blank-funded contract. The possibilities are truly endless!
Right now the Falcons have three running backs under contract: Coleman, Devonta Freeman, and Terrence Magee. The team would love both Freeman and Coleman to remain in Atlanta, but that may not be financially feasible. Magee is just a roster filler and special teamer at this point in his career.
So what lies ahead for the Falcons running back corps? In just 10 days the Falcons will jump headfirst into the 2018 NFL Draft. There’s been a lot of chatter about the Falcons adding a running back via the draft. That’s a scenario that makes a lot of sense, although zeroing in on who they would consider taking is an inexact science. Then there’s the 2019 NFL Draft and next year’s free agent class.
Ultimately Freeman appears to be the only fixture in this group. How the rest of the running back corps will shake out is anyone’s guess. But I’m curious about your thoughts, Falcoholics. Discuss!
