The Falcons are not getting Mike McGlinchey. Let’s just go ahead and get that out of the way, in case you had fanfiction ready for Matt Ryan and McGlinchey’s excellent cousin adventures or somesuch. That doesn’t mean they aren’t doing their due diligence in case the impossible happens and the consensus top 15 pick goes into freefall.
McGlinchey is the latest top draft prospect to schedule a visit with the Falcons, joining the likes of Louisville CB Jaire Alexander and the draft’s top defensive tackles. He’s also Matt Ryan’s cousin. Did you know that?

McGlinchey is arguably the top tackle prospect in a weak class at the position, and teams are starved for quality tackles in today’s NFL. While guard offers up some very intriguing prospects, tackle is studded with a handful of very good players and a lot of unknowns, and McGlinchey may very well be the first one off the board. If the Falcons want a long-term swing tackle with the upside to start someday, they’ll likely be looking later, at players like Oregon’s Tyrell Crosby or Western Michigan’s Chukwuma Okorafor.
Still, if you like a prospect a great deal, a visit’s a fine use of your time in case the unthinkable happens. And maybe he’ll get to hang out with Matt Ryan for a bit, being that they’re cousins and all.
