The Atlanta Falcons are in the market for a shiny new slot receiver. Notwithstanding the presence of guys like Marvin Hall and Justin Hardy on the roster, the Falcons are doing their due diligence and carefully considering their options in the draft as they look to replace the speedy Taylor Gabriel.
The Falcons will apparently work out Division II wide receiver Vyncint Smith on Monday. The AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter broke the news this afternoon. Smith played at Limestone College, racking up 150+ receptions and over 2,400 receiving yards (11 touchdowns). You may have actually heard his name dropped a few times lately. You see, Smith wasn’t invited to the Combine, and Limestone doesn’t churn out NFL-ready talent on the regular. Smith was allowed to participate at South Carolina’s Pro Day (he’s a South Carolina native) and he blew everyone’s socks off.
Smith’s 39.5 inch vertical, 10’10” broad jump, and 4.36 40 yard dash all would’ve ranked second among WRs, had he received a Combine invite. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick apparently demanded some face time with Smith after his impressive workout and he worked out for the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week. At 6’3, 195 pounds, he’s got NFL size to pair with his freakish measurables.
Your thoughts about this under the radar prospect?
