We’ve known the Falcons’ 2018 opponents for months now, and it’s a real mixed bunch. You have clearly struggling teams like the Giants and Bengals interspersed with the titans of the NFL like the Eagles and Steelers, and as a result, it’s tough to know just how rough this schedule will be. It is fair to suggest that the home slate, which features the Cowboys, Bengals, Giants, Cardinals and Ravens, will be easier than an away slate populated by the Eagles, Packers, and Steelers, among others.
Of course, one of the key components of any schedule is when you play these teams, and when your bye week falls for that blissful moment of rest. That’s what we still don’t know, but it sounds like we’re not all that far away from being able to buy tickets.
The widespread expectation is that the NFL will release the 2018 schedule sometime in April, likely the middle of the month, with ProFootballTalk suggesting it could be April 17. That would put us in line to really break down what lies ahead with the Falcons, matchup-wise, and then re-visit that once Atlanta puts together their (hopefully successful) draft haul. The truth is that we’ll be a lot closer to knowing how daunting the task ahead is for Atlanta in a way we just don’t know, with an incomplete roster and nothing more than a list of opponents to contemplate.
Here’s the full list of opponents one final time before we see the schedule roll out. What’s your guess regarding the slate?
