The Atlanta Falcons are in the market for a third or fourth wide receiver. They haven’t acted on that need since free agency kicked off last week. That’s led us to believe that they intend to fill Taylor Gabriel’s vacancy in next month’s draft.
The Falcons were present en masse for the University of Georgia’s pro day today. And according to the AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter, Javon Wims is apparently scheduled to interview with the Falcons.
The talented Kevin Knight wrote about Wims as part of his WR prospect preview last month. (Go give his piece a read now, if you haven’t already.) Those of you that count yourselves as dual Georgia/Falcons fans are probably delighted by this news. Dawg Nation’s Cy Brown projected the Falcons as one of the best fits for Wims.
The knocks on Wims are his lack of top end speed and an inability to distance himself from pesky press cornerbacks, but his highlight reel catches are hard to ignore. He’s only been playing football for a few years, so there’s a sense that the best is yet to come for Wims.
