NFL: New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones has played hero a lot during his short NFL career. He earned the third most votes for defensive rookie of the year in 2016. He took his first trip to the Pro Bowl in 2017. In between, he’s been busy picking off Drew Brees, kicking butt, and taking names.

Pro Football Focus is releasing their top 101 players list this week. (26-101 have been released so far; 1-25 comes out tomorrow.) So far the Falcons have four players on that list (Grady Jarrett at #84, Matt Ryan at #58, Alex Mack at #49, and Deion Jones at #35). It’s nice to get so much attention on their list, but check out what PFF had to say about Jones in particular:

Continuing his form from his rookie season, Atlanta’s Deion Jones has developed into arguably the game’s best coverage linebacker. Jones had the best coverage grade among linebackers, and it showed up in all the biggest games of Atlanta’s season with Jones making key plays to secure wins against division foes New Orleans and Carolina late in the year.

This is exactly what the front office had in mind when they drafted Jones in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft. We’ve had the privilege of watching Jones fly around the field for two seasons now. He’s got two years remaining on his rookie contract (which will take him through his age 25 season), but don’t be surprised if the Falcons extend him around this time next year.
