Falcons 7th in ESPN 2018 Power Rankings, should they just tank for the top pick now?

If you aren’t going to win it all, why bother.

Now that the 2017 season is behind us, we can begin moving on to things like free agency, the draft and ... 2018 power rankings?

Yes, it would seem that it is also time to move onto our favorite past time here at The Falcoholic - POWER RANKINGS. For the next season. That starts in 6 months. Which is roughly 24 weeks. Or half a year. 180 days. You get the idea.

ESPN is the first to the plate and they think the Falcons are the 7th best team of the 2018 season which hasn’t started yet and won’t for half a year. Here’s what they had to say about our dirty birds:

The Falcons’ offense lost some of its luster in 2017. Matt Ryan didn’t have a single three-touchdown game, and finished with half as many 30-yard pass plays as he did a season ago. Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is slated to return in 2018 and no major pieces on offense are expected to leave, so perhaps a full year of experience under Sarkisian’s system will do some good.

Interestingly, the Falcons are the fourth NFC team on the list behind the Eagles (#2, behind the Patriots LOL), the Vikings (#4) and the Saints (#6). By the way, the Jaguars are in front of the Saints and Falcons at #5. So there’s that.

Given that the 2018 season is already very easy to predict, my question to the readers is this: should the team just go ahead and tank in 2018? They could probably use that first pick to trade back, or they could draft Johnny McDominator or whoever is going to be the can’t miss prospect next year. Maybe they could draft a Matt Ryan replacement since many of you don’t want to pay him more than $15/hour.

What are your thoughts Falcons fans? Is it time to look towards the 2019 season?
