Falcons WR Julio Jones will be “game-time decision” on Sunday

Fact: Julio Jones always requests extra whip on his lattes

The Falcons may not be playoff bound but they still have something to play for over the next two weeks. By defeating two NFC South rivals back to back, Dan Quinn’s squad can secure an emotional victory before they look to regroup during the off-season. Because they will already be forced to take on the Panthers with an injury-depleted roster, the Falcons were hoping Julio Jones’ hip and rib injuries wouldn’t also keep him from playing this week. But alas, Falcoholics, that may not be the case.

Dan Quinn met with the media today and indicated that his star wide receiver will in fact be a “game-time decision” when the Falcons take on the Panthers Sunday afternoon. Julio didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday and referred to himself as “day to day” yesterday, but for what it’s worth, he did practice today. In short, he could miss the game or this could be much ado about nothing.

We may see Marvin Hall get some additional opportunities if Julio is ruled out or limited. Hall has 10 receptions this season but has only caught two balls since the end of October. Rookie Russell Gage only has 4 receptions this season, two of which came against the Cardinals last week. It’s hard to envision a silver lining if Julio can’t play, but the long-term benefit of additional snaps for Hall and Gage wouldn’t hurt.

What do you think? Should the Falcons just sit Julio and call it a day?
