Deion Jones ran 19-plus MPH on his pick-6 in Falcons vs. Cardinals

We knew Deion Jones was fast, but my goodness.

Deion Jones may not yet be 100% after the foot injury that landed him on injured reserve for much of the season. But he looked pretty close to it when he returned an interception for a touchdown in the Falcons’ 40-14 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.

The defense had quite a showing against rookie Josh Rosen, who was pressured into plenty of mistakes. Rosen finished his day with 132 yards, no touchdowns, a fumble, and two picks while taking six sacks from a Falcons unit that apparently has finally figured out how to rush a quarterback.

One of those interceptions was tipped by Vic Beasley before landing in Jones’ hands. Jones ran it all the way back for six.

Jones was flying toward the end zone.

According to my calculations based on an equation I found on the internet, Jones was going 18.26 miles per hour when he ran his 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. He topped that Sunday.

Jones wasn’t even the fastest Falcon on the field Sunday. Tevin Coleman eclipsed Jones’ speed on his way to 145 yards and a score.

That’s quite fast.

There were some moments in Sunday’s game that Jones didn’t look to be at full speed, but this was not one of them. Who knows if this defense can maintain this level of play against teams that aren’t the Cardinals, but it was a much more encouraging performance across the board.
