Make that five losses in a row for a Falcons team that’s just plummeted into the abyss since that very promising Week 9 victory in Washington. The drubbing suffered up in Lambeau Field marks the ninth defeat of the season for the Birds, meaning that this will be Dan Quinn’s first losing season as Atlanta’s head coach, and the team’s first losing season since 2014.
We have a lot of great content analyzing the game here at The Falcoholic, but in this article, we’ll look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective. Let’s look at Atlanta’s top fantasy performer and biggest fantasy disappointment from Week 14’s defeat against the Green Bay Packers.
Fantasy Stud/Dud 2018 History:
Past Studs: Matt Ryan (4), Julio Jones (2), Calvin Ridley (2), Mohamed Sanu (1), Giorgio Tavecchio (1), Matt Bryant (1), Austin Hooper (1)
Past Duds: Mohamed Sanu (3), Calvin Ridley (2), Atlanta D/ST (2), Austin Hooper (2), Tevin Coleman (2) Devonta Freeman (1)
Stud - Julio Jones
Stat Line: 8 catches, 106 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns: 22.6 standard league points, 30.6 PPR points
After posting his worst stat line of the season last week — two catches for 18 yards — Jones had his strongest fantasy performance of the season thus far, right in time for the fantasy playoffs.
Jones almost singlehandedly marched the Falcons downfield on the first drive of the game, catching four passes for 69 yards and the opening touchdown. He’d be quieted throughout the rest of the first half (making one more catch for six yards before halftime), but would later eclipse the 100-yard mark for the seventh time in eight games while adding a second touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter.
This marks Julio’s first multi-TD game since Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. He also became the first player to ever record 1400 receiving yards in five straight seasons.
Jones was the third-highest scoring receiver in standard league fantasy this week, and is the fifth-highest scoring standard league WR thus far this season.
Calvin Ridley: 1 catch, 10 receiving yards: 1.0 standard league points, 2.0 PPR points
Calvin Ridley seems to have hit a rookie wall and hard. At one point a top five scoring fantasy WR through Week 4, Ridley has put up performances of less than 40 yards and no touchdowns in four of his last five games.
Ridley had just one reception in this game that went for 10 yards and that’s it. He committed his team-leading third drop of the season on a pass that hit him in the hands early in the second quarter.
There was no reprieve for Ridley’s fantasy owners in PPR leagues either, as he only had one reception in the game. If you started him in your lineup then you pretty much worked with an empty roster spot. Ridley can’t be trusted in fantasy lineups moving forward.
