Over the past several weeks, we received some complaints about how unrealistic it was to talk about stealing great players from opposing football teams. While I still think it’s a fun question, I thought I’d spin this in a slightly more realistic direction.
The Browns currently have
QB Tyrod Taylor
FB Orson Charles
WR Rashard Higgins
WR Breshard Perriman
WR Da’Mari Scott
WR Rod Streater
TE Pharoah Brown
LT Greg Robinson
RT Earl Watford
DT Carl Davis
DT Trevon Coley
OLB Ray-Ray Armstrong
CB E.J. Gaines
CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun
This is not a great list! Higgins is a young, useful receiver with a 70% catch rate in 2018, Gaines is a youngish cornerback who would provide solid depth for Atlanta, and Boddy-Calhoun has some positional versatility and tackles pretty well. Go ahead and hold your nose and go dumpster diving and see if you can pick one to add to this Falcons team next year.
The Browns are going to be losing very little talent next year, which can only help them as they try to escape their many, many years as one of the NFL’s laughingstocks. But it doesn’t help the Falcons all that much heading into a 2019 offseason where they’ll need to make some tough decisions with their own, generally superior talent set to exit the building.
If this is too depressing an exercise for you, go ahead and let us know how you’d manage to get Myles Garrett or Denzel Ward from Cleveland to Atlanta in time for this game.
