Even though the Falcons didn’t put up over 30 points again, the offense looked good for long stretches of the game. It was not a dominating performance and some key errors really jumped out, but the unit did just enough to hold onto an important win. Here are some potential offensive players of the game to choose from.
Matt Ryan
It’s a good thing when your QB is constantly on a list like this. Ryan’s name is consistently one of the top considerations this year for good reason. His game against the Giants was just another example of why we’re so lucky to have him. The stats are impressive by themselves, going 31/39 for 379 yards 1 TD and a 115.7 rating. But that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Ryan found 10 different receivers during the game and navigated a pocket that got pretty iffy throughout. He seemingly made critical conversions at all the swing moments during the fourth quarter, helping to secure a win for a game that could have easily gone south. He’s having a fantastic year and is one of the reasons this team still has any hope left.
Tevin Coleman
It was tough sledding for most of the game for Coleman, as the offensive line did not do him or Ito Smith many favors in the running game. However, his big run for a TD in the second half demonstrated his ability to take it to the house if he’s given just enough daylight.
Julio Jones
Yet another 100 yard game for the often unstoppable Jones. Undoubtedly, his fumble late in the game will weigh on many minds, but his mere presence on the field opened up opportunities elsewhere even while he pulled down his “ho hum” 9 catches for 104 yards.
Giorgio Tavecchio
Yes, I know a kicker is technically on special teams, but you can’t ignore what Tavecchio did in this game. Coming off the street and going 3/3 on field goals, including a 50 yarder followed by a 56 yarder is damned impressive. It’s hard to replace someone like Matt Bryant, but Tavecchio made an incredible first impression on Monday night.
