Mohamed Sanu questionable to return to Buccaneers vs. Falcons with hip injury

Oh no, not again.

NFL: New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

As if the Falcons weren’t already in dire injury straits on defense and with Devonta Freeman out of the lineup, they also lost Calvin Ridley early in Sunday’s contest against the Buccaneers. Now Mohamed Sanu has suffered a hip injury. He is questionable to return to the game.

The Falcons had a strong first half against the Bucs, but have looked flat since returning to the field in the third quarter. Having Ridley out makes life much easier for the Buccaneers defense. Having Sanu out dramatically lessens Atlanta’s chances of coming away with a win, especially considering the defense’s tendency to — how can I put this nicely? — play terrible football.

Sanu had 46 yards before leaving the game, including a 35-yard score. He has 257 yards and two touchdowns on the season so far.

Now it’s up to Julio Jones, who has yet to score a touchdown this season, and Austin Hooper to come up with plays against the Bucs. Tevin Coleman and Ito Smith may be more involved in the passing game, and if guys like Justin Hardy and Marvin Hall can make some plays, that would help.

What is there to even say about the injuries at this point? They’re piling up like peanut shells under the tables at a Texas Roadhouse. It’s absurd and objectively terrible. Let’s all hope that Sanu is, in fact, able to return. If not, hopefully he won’t miss much time because this team needs all the help it can get.
