The Atlanta Falcons pulled off a huge victory on the road tonight, advancing to the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. They will play the Philadelphia Eagles next weekend, a favorable draw that could land the Falcons back in the NFC Championship. There’s a lot to talk about, but luckily injuries weren’t a significant issue tonight.
Lots of Falcons came into tonight’s game a little banged up. Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman, Alex Mack, and Levine Toilolo all looked healthy tonight, so that’s encouraging.
Matt Ryan got absolutely rocked when he slipped on a second down play late in the second quarter. He slipped and was already falling to the ground when a defender hit him from behind, bending his neck awkwardly. The next play also resulted in a sack that caused Ryan’s head to slam into the ground. (Not a good look for the offensive line.)
The back of Ryan’s head, right by his ear, was bleeding as he stood on the sideline, and they took him into the medical tent for treatment. Ultimately he was fine but those two plays and their aftermath were unsettling.
