Atlanta Falcons talk: Who is your dream free agent for 2018?

Let’s make a deal.

The Atlanta Falcons aren’t going to be throwing around huge gobs of money in free agency this season, unlike say the Cleveland Browns or San Francisco 49ers. The Falcons will have the money to get a decent-sized splash, a handful of useful parts, and sign their draft class, especially once they sort out Matt Ryan’s extension. That’s just about it.

That doesn’t mean we can’t do a little wishing and a little hoping en route to these free agent signings, though, and that’s exactly what we’ll do tonight.

My complete dream signing would be Sammy Watkins. He doesn’t have a history of staying healthy, but Watkins is a young, capable weapon who does good work in the red zone, and a Julio/Sanu/Watkins trio would be absurdly great. Or maybe DeMarcus Lawrence, the Cowboys pass rusher I wanted the Falcons to draft, and a player who could be an amazing addition to an already excellent rotation for Atlanta. That is a dream, though.

A semi-realistic possibility, though, would be Sheldon Richardson. He’s going to be looking for a big contract and the team is likely to fret over some of his character concerns, but he’s a legitimate playmaker coming off a very quiet year, which drive his market value down. If the Falcons aren’t going to solve their defensive tackle woes through the draft, they’ll need to look at players like Richardson and Dontari Poe, and I’d be pretty happy with Richardson.

How about you?
