When you consider everything working against the Chicago Bears in their Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, it’s sort of a miracle they’re only a six point underdog. They are, however, only a six point underdog.
The reasons to believe the Bears will lose are myriad. The Falcons have the superior roster, arguably the superior head coach, and are a much healthier squad at the moment. The Bears are working with a replacement-level starting quarterback in Mike Glennon, which would be fine if they weren’t also dealing with a decimated receiving corps that just lost Cameron Meredith, its #1 option, for the entire season. Couple that with a defense that is good enough to surprise but not good enough to dominate and you have a recipe for a tough first game against what figures to be a top 5 offense in the NFL.
Of course, the Falcons are fresh off their Super Bowl game and 0-4 preseason, which fuels a dumb narrative that they’re reeling. The Bears are also at home, where they’ll presumably be able to grit and grind their way to at least a decent game against Atlanta.
We’ll know soon enough how this one turns out, but it would not surprise me to see the Falcons win this one by two scores, even on the road. How about you?
