The Atlanta Falcons have done a lot of impressive things already in 2017, but there may be no more impressive fact than this one: They still haven’t surrendered a lead yet.
Atlanta’s had two close call games thus far this season, but remarkably, they’ve spent more than two-thirds of their three games on the field with a lead. The remaining time they’ve spent tied, which accounts for just over three total quarters. That they did so against the Packers and Lions—who are both quality teams—and a Bears team that just took out the Steelers should tell you plenty about how well they’re playing. All frustrations aside.
2017 Falcons (updated)...
— Mike Conti (@MikeConti929) September 24, 2017
Time spent leading: 131:18
Time spent tied: 48:42
Time spent trailing: 0:00
As Conti notes, the Falcons have only done this two other times in franchise history, back in 2004 and again in 2012. In both of those seasons, they advanced to the NFC Conference Championship Game, so this is a pretty positive omen overall. If the Falcons can run this streak out another game against the Bills in Week 4, they’re going to be 4-0 and in stellar position to cruise into the postseason once more.
Make it so!
