While we all hoped to escape that Lions game without further injuries, we don’t always get what we want. That’s a valuable life lesson, in my humble opinion.
While Ryan Schraeder should be able to return to the field before the Buffalo Bills game this Sunday, which will be a huge boon against an active Buffalo front, the outlook is less rosy for a couple of notable names. That unfortunately includes all-universe wide receiver Julio Jones and starting free safety Ricardo Allen. It’s worth noting that Vic Beasley is almost certainly going to miss this game, too, and Courtney Upshaw is not certain to return.
Dan Quinn says Julio Jones will be limited but will likely get a lot of work this week. Schraeder and Ricardo Allen in concussion protocol— Mike Conti (@MikeConti929) September 25, 2017
I doubt you’ll find Julio held out of Sunday’s game, but if he’s at all gimpy, it means he’ll be a little less effective. That obviously hurts the passing attack, however slightly, which is a legitimate concern against a defense that has been excellent this year. Knowing Julio, though, he’ll probably reel in eight receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown while limping in between plays. He’s the GOAT.
The Ricardo Allen injury is also a legitimate concern. Defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel has praised Allen as one of the NFL’s better open field tacklers at safety, and the Falcons are about to face off against LeSean McCoy. Without Allen in the game, chances are good that Damontae Kazee will get his first NFL start. Let’s hope he can thrive in his first extended opportunity.
We’ll keep you posted on injury updates the rest of the week, but suffice to say to we’ll need to watch Julio and Rico like hawks. Or Falcons.
