Sources: Safety Marcelis Branch expected to land on Falcons practice squad

The athletic safety will be a developmental option at a position of strength for Atlanta.

We know international player Alex Gray has the 11th and final practice squad sewn up, and the rest of the signings to the practice squad should trickle out over the next 24 hours or so. We know one of them right now, though, assuming the man in question clears waivers.

Per a league source, Branch will be added to the practice squad as long as he isn’t scooped up by another team. We’re not sure when the team will officially announce it just yet, but the athletic young safety showed the Falcons enough over the summer to warrant a longer look. Branch had one of the worst plays of the preseason in Week 1 against the Dolphins when he repeatedly got spun around on a long touchdown reception, but he is #fast and #physical and that’s what Dan Quinn loves from his defensive backs. If Branch can hang on for a while and prove himself, he may get a longer look in 2018.

We’ll be posting a practice squad tracker soon, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, congratulations to Branch, Gray, and everyone who made the 53 man roster.
