The Falcons are undefeated on the young season, but their first win gave you plenty of ammo whether you’re a true believer or a skeptic. Atlanta held on, picked up four sacks and over 300 yards passing, but they also needed a red zone, fourth down stop to win and didn’t look particularly inspiring on offense.
That’s just one week, though, and the Falcons will be building the story of 2017 for many weeks to come. How they look against the Packers, a slam dunk NFC contender, is likely to ultimately matter a lot more than what they did against Chicago in that first week. Green Bay offers a genuine challenge because they have an elite quarterback, strong all-around offense, and potentially improved defense, though the anemic Seattle offense wasn’t a true test for them either.
A win here is pretty vital for Atlanta, because it sets them up to have an extremely strong record before they hit the meat of their schedule. With a road game against a fairly average Lions team and a home game against the rebuilding Bills, followed by a bye, the Falcons could be 4-0 and fresh heading into a Week 6 home game against the Dolphins, followed by that critical away game against New England in Week 7. With matchups against the Seahawks, Cowboys, Vikings, and the rest of the NFC South in the back half of the year, that strong start could make a huge difference.
The game kicks off in about an hour and twenty minutes. Use this as your open thread!
